Your image gets printed directly onto a sheet of 1/16" thick aluminum. The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. A decorated altar in the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. I always send visitors there, especially at Christmas or during their open house in April when you can climb the bell tower all the way past the carillon player to the bell ringers pulling ropes at the very top.
